#1 Rose Noire Droptail – $32 Million
The Rose Noire Droptail is a unique two-seater roadster from Rolls Royce and the most expensive car in the world in 2024. It represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship and attention to detail. The Droptail is the third car launched in Rolls Royce’s Coachbuild series, inspired by the black rose variety known as Baccara, famous for its intense, velvety appearance.
This car, which holds the current record for the most expensive car in the world, is limited to just four units, each with its own unique name and specifications. La Rose Noire was the first to deliver droptail, and its creation took more than four years.
The abstract motifs on the curved panels and doors showcase the most complex marquetry technique ever performed by Rolls Royce. The wooden interior is made up of 1,603 pieces of veneered black mahogany, cut with asymmetrical red segments reminiscent of the falling petals of a rose. The process required intense concentration, limiting craftsmen to sessions of one hour of active work, no longer than five hours a day.
The exterior is characterized by a unique color called “True Love,” designed to mimic the color change of petals under different lights. The color went through over 150 iterations to achieve the desired look. As a finishing touch, there is a detachable Audemars Piguet wristwatch that comes with the car. Specially made for this project, it demonstrates a commitment to luxury and attention to detail in every aspect of the Rose Noire Droptail.
#2 Rolls Royce Boatail – $28 Million
The Rolls Royce Boatail is a grand tourer handcrafted by Rolls-Royce for three of their closest clients, and it represents the second most expensive car in the world. The Boatail draws inspiration from the yachts of the 1920s and 1930s. The nautical design of this limousine pays homage to the elegant J-class yachts.
The “deck” of the Boatail is made from premium Caleidolegno veneer that opens like a butterfly, revealing a space for a sun umbrella, a rotating table, and a dual refrigerator for chilling favorite champagne, with a color that evokes the depths of the sea. The car also comes with a complete set of Christofle tableware.
For an extra touch of luxury, the manufacturer of this automotive masterpiece, in collaboration with the brand Bovet 1822, ensured that the owner of the Boatail receives two high-end handcrafted timepieces, which contain a small sculpture of the car in the gears and can be worn as wristwatches or placed in a prominent spot within the vehicle. And that’s not all when it comes to the exceptional details of this car. The designers of this vehicle pushed their boundaries to the extent that the car even includes a Montblanc pen housed in a handcrafted case within the glove compartment and decorative work on the dashboard.
#3 Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta – $18.5 Million
Made as a tribute to the legendary Pagani Zonda model, the Pagani Zonda HP Barchetta is more than just a car. This vehicle is a manifestation of Renaissance and scientific concepts that have always been an integral part of Pagani’s design philosophy. Custom-built specifically for Horacio Pagani, this unique automotive artwork combines modern technology with exceptional craftsmanship as part of the Zonda project, marking the end of its 18-year production run.
The Zonda HP Barchetta features a 12-cylinder AMG engine that delivers 760 horsepower with a distinctive sound.
As part of the Uno-di-Uno division, only three units were produced, one of which is reserved for Pagani, while the other two found fortunate buyers (unfortunately, one was destroyed in an accident). It’s worth noting that it held the title of the most expensive car in the world until the release of the Rolls Royce model. With a 6-speed manual transmission, the Zonda HP Barchetta offers an exhilarating driving experience and is definitely a unique and highly desirable collectible car.
#5 Rolls-Royce Sweptail – $12.8 Million
The Rolls-Royce Sweptail marked the beginning of the Rolls-Royce Coachbuild program. It is a unique two-seater grand touring coupe, born from the passion of a special client for early 20th-century cars and classic/modern yachts. Based on the Rolls-Royce Phantom, the Sweptail is handcrafted and brought to perfection, taking four years to complete. Inspired by the bodywork designs of the 1920s and 1930s, Rolls-Royce shaped and styled the Sweptail with elegant tapering, graceful falling sides, and a distinctive curtain-like rear end.
The continuous glass dome roof of the coupe floods the car with natural light. Minimalist controls allow premium materials such as polished Macassar Ebony and open-pore Paldao to take center stage in the cabin, creating visual contrasts with Moccasin and Dark Spice leathers. It made its debut at the prestigious Concorso d’Éleganza Villa d’Este in 2017, where the Sweptail was awarded the title of the most expensive car in the world at the time.
#6 Bugatti Centodieci – $9 Million
Bugatti Centodieci (Italian for “110”) is a stunning, super-limited hypercar that pays tribute to the iconic Bugatti EB 110 model and celebrates the brand’s 110th anniversary. First unveiled in 2019 at “The Quail” event, the Centodieci is 20 kg lighter and more powerful than the Chiron. Limited to just ten units, priced at $9 million each, it proudly stands as one of the most expensive cars in the world.
Drawing inspiration from the EB110 model, the Centodieci features five diamond-shaped air intakes and a wedge-shaped profile, highlighted by a six-sided grille beneath the headlights. The rear showcases eight tail lights, four exhaust pipes, a large diffuser, and a fixed extended rear spoiler, contributing to its aggressive appearance.
Another distinctive feature: the W16 engine is located beneath a glass surface reminiscent of the EB110 model, making it a nod to the original car.
#7 Mercedes-Maybach Exelero – $8 Million
When it comes to the hype around conceptual cars, the Mercedes-Maybach Exelero is one of the few concept cars that is still sought after and talked about today. Although it debuted back in 2005, this car has consistently ranked on the list of the top 10 most expensive cars in the world for 19 years in a row.
Ordered by Fulda, a subsidiary of Goodyear, the Exelero is a unique, one-of-a-kind, fully functional concept car made to test the performance of its “Carat Exelero” tires. The design of the car represents a modern interpretation of the Maybach SW 38 combined with the Maybach 57 platform. Fulda required a car that could reach speeds of 350 km/h to test the durability of their tires. To achieve this, the Exelero is equipped with a twin-turbo V12 engine that delivers 690 horsepower and 752 ft-lbs of torque.
The car has appeared on the famous German TV show Cobra 11 and in the music video of renowned rapper and billionaire Jay-Z for the song “Lost One.” Today, it resides in the collection of a private German collector.
#10 Bugatti Divo – $5.8 Million
The Bugatti Divo is built as a tribute to the French racing driver Albert Divo, known for his victories in the Targa Florio races during the 1920s in Bugatti vehicles. Limited to a production of just 40 units, the Divo stands out with its distinctive aerodynamically tuned profile designed for track performance, featuring enhanced suspension and significant weight reduction. The Divo is Bugatti’s answer to extreme track performance.
Its symmetrical cabin layout is characterized by an asymmetric color scheme that separates the driver from the passenger. Priced at around $5.8 million, the Divo, being lighter and more dynamic than the Chiron, has become one of the most sought-after and expensive cars in the world, reaching nearly double its original market value.
